ITS announces recent investments in the Storrs High Performance Computing (HPC) facility.
HPC gives researchers the power to process large amounts of data (big data), solve complicated computational problems, and explore complex systems. University researchers are increasingly pursuing these activities, and as the demand increases, the capacity and performance of our facility must scale commensurately. ITS has been continuously assessing overall capabilities and planning for future growth. We have coordinated a combined investment by the Provost, ITS, and faculty stakeholders to replace end-of-life equipment with current generation compute this fiscal year. The procurement was executed at the end of January and represents a 30% increase in total core count and memory. This new equipment, including both CPU and GPU capability, will be installed over the next two months. For more information about HPC, visit hpc.uconn.edu.
