On Tuesday, December 11, our community began to experience intermittent delays accessing the P: drive. ITS engaged with our vendor to begin diagnosing and addressing the root cause of this latency. Extensive review of logs over a substantive period showed no correlation between latency and the normal read/write metrics that are commonly used to track load. After careful consultation with the our vendor, we have elected to align our environment configuration to be more consistent with current vendor advocated best practices. This trades some basic view filtering functionality for much more efficient home directory access. Since this change, we have not observed latency issues but will continue working with the vendor to ensure that we have fully addressed the underlying problem.
We realize that impaired access to file services impacts our community heavily, and ITS will be vigilant as we monitor performance on the P: drive.
