The University uses WebEx, a videoconferencing application that enables online meetings in a virtual room, to host interviews with remote applicants.
Normal WebEx meetings can be initiated and ended by hosts, but job interviews require more confidentiality. Historically, interviewers requested the specialized video conference via a form. ITS staff would subsequently create a private “room,” distribute a unique link to participants, coordinate testing with applicants, ensure initiation, and end the interview. Conducting remote interviews is increasingly popular, and we have elected to streamline the process. We have created dedicated WebEx virtual rooms and enabled hosts to “lock” them. This prevents others from inadvertently joining the meeting. Additional information in support of this new WebEx functionality has been added to the IT Knowledge Base (kb.uconn.edu). Although all aspects of the process can now be done by participants, ITS staff remain available to assist.
