ITS has expanded network services to support remote activities.
As expected, demand dramatically increased for systems and services that enable remote access when many employees began to telecommute. It will continue to increase when students resume courses online. We have made the following updates today to address immediate and anticipated issues.
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
The community began to experience issues with the VPN service today as the number of licenses was exceeded. ITS was moving to increase license counts but could not get this into place before today. Additional licenses are now in place, and we have made additional changes to better balance across multiple appliances. It will take up to 24 hours for the additional capacity to be fully available due to Domain Name Service (DNS) caching. ITS has other remote access options available, including direct access. We also strongly recommend that our community leverage OneDrive during this period; as a cloud-hosted option, it provides secure storage that is accessible from any device with an Internet connection.
AnyWare 2.0
ITS made AnyWare 2.0 available today. It provides a virtual desktop environment, similar to AnyWare Desktop, but is built upon the Citrix infrastructure. ITS is offering this option as an addition to Desktop and Apps to defray the anticipated increased load on our virtual offerings. AnyWare can be used to access the P: and Q: drives.
Thank you for your patience as we adjust our services, and we appreciate your support sharing pertinent information with your constituents. We will continue to communicate updates with you and incorporate your recommendations into the IT Guide for Telecommuting found on kb.uconn.edu.
