ITS is preparing to reinstate Identity Finder.
Identity Finder is a tool that helps prevent identity theft by searching for, protecting, and assistingin the disposal of personally identifiable information stored on individual computers. ITS disabled the tool because there was the potential for interference with Microsoft Outlook. We have limited these conflicts to specific software and files, which will be excluded from scanning when Identity Finder is relaunched. For over three years, ITS automatically ran Identity Finder on a weekly basis, and this greatly reduced the amount of personally identifiable information on university computers. Because of this, and based on feedback from the community, the frequency of the scans will be changed to monthly. Starting on October 22, Identity Finder will scan individual computers on the third Thursday of each month.
