Windows 11, the latest version of Microsoft’s client operating system, was released on October 5, 2021. Up-to-date operating systems and other software are essential for secure, robust operations because vendors focus their resources on current versions as they ultimately deprecate older ones. We will begin migrating the community this summer from Windows 10 to Windows 11. It will be installed on all Windows laptops and desktops purchased through the University Refresh Program, on lab computers as they are replaced, and on classroom computers before the start of the semester. We will be testing deployment for managed workstations by transitioning our ITS computers this month. This will surface any issues that we need to address before upgrading computers in units outside of ITS. We will provide additional information, including relevant timelines, as this initiative proceeds.
